Caring for your stucco is simple and easy. Which is part of the reason that stucco makes such a great choice for an exterior coating.
WASHING YOUR STUCCO
Like it or not the exteriors of any home can get dirty. Stucco is no exception. If we could prevent that then we would have a revolutionary product on our hands.
Washing your stucco is a good way to make sure that the porous surface of your stucco is not clogged by dirt.
To wash your stucco use a garden hose with a jet nozzle attachment. Do not hold the end of the nozzle too close to your stucco or it can cause damage. Also do not use a pressure sprayer for the same reason.
Start spraying your home from the bottom up. This prevents the stucco from absorbing as much dirty water. After pre-wetting your stucco you can use a mild detergent and wash it, do not use dish soaps.
When rinsing your stucco start from the top and work your way down. (This is important even if you did not use any detergent.) See I told you it was simple.
INSPECTING THE STUCCO ON YOUR HOME
It is important to walk around your house at least once a year for the purpose of inspecting your stucco so that you can maintain it. (Although we hope that you enjoy walking around your house and yard more than just once a year.)
When you inspect your stucco look for any large cracks that may have appeared over the course of the year. Sometimes drastic changes in temperature can cause a crack especially if there is moisture in the stucco and it freezes. Cracks can also appear if your house's foundation had settled.
